Hydrocolloid Dressings: Gentle and Effective Protection for Wounds, Spare Wounds from

一 、Q: Why do we need dressings to cover wounds?

A: To protect wounds, prevent wound infection, and create an environment conducive to wound healing.

二、:Q: Why choose wet healing?

In 1962, G.D. Winter from the UK found in his research that when pig wounds were covered with polyethylene film, the epithelialization rate doubled. This was the first time it was confirmed that moist and permeable wound dressings could accelerate the healing process. In 1981, the Department of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, discovered that the proliferation of new blood vessels increases as the atmospheric oxygen content in the wound decreases. This finding proved that wounds do not require oxygen for healing, changing the traditional view.

Therefore, the modern concept of moist wound healing was proposed: a moderately moist and closed environment. This treatment method can provide a better wound environment, promote wound healing, and reduce the chances of pain and infection.

三、Q: What is a hydrocolloid dressing?

A: Hydrocolloid dressing is an elastomeric dressing composed of medical pressure-sensitive adhesive, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, etc.

It has autolytic debridement ability, can selectively remove necrotic tissue, create low oxygen tension, stimulate the release of macrophages and interleukins, and has a certain anti-infective ability.

It promotes local blood circulation, accelerates the repair of inflammatory reactions, and has good absorbency and air permeability.

It is waterproof and can prevent the passage of bacteria, avoiding bacterial infection. Moreover, hydrocolloid has good elasticity and strong conformability, so the dressing is not easy to deform or fall off, and can provide a certain environment for the wound and the surrounding skin.

Action Principle:

When hydrocolloid comes into contact with the exudate in the wound, it forms a gel, which creates a moist healing environment and accelerates wound healing. The gel avoids adhesion to the wound during dressing change, reducing pain.
